The winner of this year’s Kateřina Šmídková Prize, awarded by the Czech Economic Society (CES), is Jana Cahlíková, assistant professor at Erasmus University in Rotterdam, and research associate at CERGE-EI, a joint workplace of CERGE at Charles University in Prague and the Economic Institute of the Czech Academy of. Sciences. In her research, Dr Cahlíková is active within the area of behavioural and experimental economics, as well as within the area of applied microeconomics, political economy, organizational economics, and development economics.

The Biennial Conference of the Czech Economic Society is a full-day international scientific conference, the content of which includes: about 60-80 presentations in individual sections (including a section for primary and secondary school teachers of economically-oriented subjects), a plenary lecture by a distinguished guest and the award ceremony of the Young Economist competition, Kateřina Šmídková Prize, and CES Prize for Long-Term Contribution to Development of Czech Economic Learning. The Czech Economic Society has been awarding The Young Economist Award to economists under 30 years of age who register for the competition by submitting their original, professional papers. Furthermore, the CSE awards the Karel Engliš Prize to the paper best dealing with Cech economic policy. Moreover, authors under 25 years of age who have never been awarded by the CSE in the past may be granted honourable mentions.

The Prize is given to commemorate the leading Czech economist professor Kateřina Šmídková, a longstanding member of the management board of the CES, professor of economics at IES FSV UK and director of the Economic Research Department of the Czech National Bank. The purpose of the Prize is to support female economists of Czech and foreign origin with long-term local activity and Czech female economists active abroad with exceptional standards of publication activity and to support their further professional development.
